Studio Policy

Financial Responsibility
Tuition – Throughout the academic year (September – May), tuition is charged at a consistent monthly rate, which averages 4 lessons each month and totals 36 for the entire period. Master classes or group lessons are considered as half of a private lesson. The tuition schedule outlines the number of lessons provided each month along with their respective due dates for payment. Summer tuition is billed monthly for the number of lessons scheduled.
Fees – Fees for participation in Oregon Music Teacher’s Association programs are billed as they occur.
Music/Books – Throughout the year I will purchase music and invoice for reimbursement.
BetterPractice – This is a monthly fee (currently $4.88) for the Better Practice App—platform for assignments, custom media, play alongs, materials and keeping track of practice. This will be a separate line item on your monthly invoice.

Attendance
Holidays – Studio holidays are listed on the Studio Calendar.
Illness – Please give 24 hours notice.  Lessons missed due to illness (the student’s or mine) will be made up or credited on the next invoice.  Zoom lessons are available for students who are well enough to take a lesson, but not well enough to attend in-person.
Missed Lessons – A lesson missed for anything other than illness is considered billable.  The Lesson Exchange Schedule is provided to swap lesson times when needed.  For school required trips, arrangement may be made for credit or make-up at the teacher’s discretion.
Discontinuing – One month notice is required when discontinuing lessons.

Practice
Success in music lessons is dependent upon correct and consistent practice habits.  In order for students, parents, and the teacher to experience success, the following are my recommendations.
Arrange and prioritize a set time to practice.
Practice 5 days a week.
Provide a distraction-free place to practice.
Log practice time by signing-in to the Better Practice App and following the instructions under each assignment.
Provide an acoustic piano with annual tuning or a digital piano with 88 keys, touch sensitivity and a sustain pedal (Contact me for affordable options.).

Master classes, Group Lessons & recitals
There are 4 master classes/group lessons. Students will participate in one or the other: master class or group lesson at the teacher’s direction.  Students will also perform in two studio recitals (winter and spring).  Each recital will have a recital run-through approximately one week prior.
Master classes/group lessons provide opportunities for students to perform for their peers. To become comfortable performing, one must perform frequently.  Participation in master classes/group lessons and recital run-throughs give students the ability to perform in low stress situations, further building their self confidence.
